[Solved] Would you be so kind as to help me to determine how I should pipe a question?

0

Hi,

I’ve reviewed the test data from my survey and I’m realizing that I may have piped my question wrong, as there’s no data showing up.

Here are the two questions in my survey (taken from word doc; instructions about randomizing, etc. included for your reference). Question 5 is giving me data. Question 5a is not:

  1. Which of the following attributes do you find most important in a semiconductor supplier? (Please select ONE best response.) PROGRAMMER: RANDOMIZE ATTRIBUTES

1

Applications expertise

2

Technology leadership

3

Low cost

4

Deep understanding of customer issues

5

Broad portfolio

6

Stable and secure

7

Delivers good value

FOR ALL OTHER ATTRIBUTES NOT SELECTED IN PREVIOUS QUESTION, ASK:

5a. Which of the following attributes do you find most important in a semiconductor supplier? (Please select up to three responses.) PROGRAMMER: RANDOMIZE ATTRIBUTES

1

Applications expertise

2

Technology leadership

3

Low cost

4

Deep understanding of customer issues

5

Broad portfolio

6

Stable and secure

7

Delivers good value

Here’s how I have it in Survey Gizmo:

Okay, first things first: Scroll up to the top of the build tab. On the right hand side there are three white links ‘Jump to page’ ‘Customize’ and ‘Restore’. Click on the ‘Customize’ and select ‘Question IDs’. This turns on your question IDs – which will appear in a blue box in the bottom right of each question.

Scroll back down to Question 5. Make sure it says ID:15 in that blue box. If it doesn’t then 5a is piping from the wrong question.

Next: Do you only want 5a to appear once with the options that weren’t selected in 5 or do you want it to appear multiple times (if so based on what? You currently have it based on a question which allows only one answer to be selected).

If it is just the once, you need to go into edit 5a; go to the ‘Piping/Repeat’ tab and set ‘Repeat this question for each selected option from a previously answered question’ back to ‘Select a Question’.

Assuming your ‘This question has answer validation’  is set at max = 3; the above should fix your problem.

Let me know how it goes,

    Katrina

On a side note: Are you sure your questionnaire is correct? You’re asking your respondent the exact same question twice – after removing one of their options. Should Q5a not be something along the lines of “other attributes you find important in a semiconductor supplier”?
