I accidentally archived the wrong survey — although I think the tool failed me. I need to unarchive it but it says I don’t have the authority. This must be because I’m using the free version as I created the survey.

Are you still having this issue? You may have to email SurveyGizmo Support (email@example.com) to have them restore the survey.
