[Solved] Participants Location

I am a college student and trying to run a survey for a class. I created a survey on Gizmo and I like it. However, I have 2 questions please:

  1. I need to have 120 responses to my survey, but it says the survey is limited to 100 responses, so how would I increase it to attain the intended 120 responses?
  2. How do I see the location from which participants have logged in? Other sites usually show “Participant Logged from city, country’ with others even showing OS and browser?

Thanks a lot

    Hi Naem,

Thanks for posting to the SurveyGizmo Community Forum.  None of your fellow users will be able to answer the first part of your question, so I have flagged your posting for the attention of SurveyGizmo Support.

Regarding the second question in your posting – SurveyGizmo collects geo data from the respondent’s  browser when they first open a survey.  You can see this data when you download  the response data into and Excel or CSV file.

Geo data is not normally included in the response data that appears on Standard Reports.  To make geo data part of the response data you will have to add hidden questions and then use merge codes in the DEFAULT ANSWER fields to capture this information for display on Standard Reports.

You should be aware that the geo data that SurveyGizmo collects from the browsers is not always accurate.  If a respondent replies from a PC on a network, the geo data will reflect the location of the network server and not the respondent’s actual location.  If the respondent is connected to the internet thru a VPN system then the location maybe blocked. And if the respondent is connected to WIFI in their local Starbucks or McDonald’s, then the GEO location collected from the respondent’s browser may not reflect their actual location.

      • Hello Jim,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply.
I will wait for SurveyGizmo Support to let me know how to answer the first part of my question.

As for the second part that you have kindly answered, I was wondering if you can please help me answer the following follow-up questions:

I actually went ahead and tried to download the data of the few responses I got so far into and Excel or CSV file, there was no geo data. The spreadsheet had the following columns only:
        • Response ID
        • Time Started
        • Date Submitted
        • Status
        • Legacy Comments
        • Comments
        • Language
        • Referer
        • Extended Referer
        • SessionID
        • User Agent
        • Extended User Agent
        • Tags
        • Question 1
        • Question 2
        • etc

Since there is apparently a way to make geo data part of the survey response data (Thanks for pointing that out), I would like to explore it. However, when I went to add hidden questions and then use merge codes in the DEFAULT ANSWER fields to capture this information for display on Standard Reports, I did not see any option for making the question hidden and to “merge codes”! Can you please advise?

Once again, thank you very much. I truly appreciate it.

      Hi Jim and David,

I just upgraded to explorer, and to get the Geo data in the response data that appears on my Standard Reports, I added a hidden question at the end of the survey. but I could not see any “merge codes” or a “DEFAULT ANSWER” field as you have mentioned for me to capture the country information for display on Standard Reports.

Can you please advise on where and what that means?

      Thank you,

        Hi Naem,

Thank you for posting on the SurveyGizmo Community forum! I hope I can help answer your questions. The limitations that you have encountered are associated with the level of account that you are currently subscribed to, specifically the Scout (Free) plan.

The Free plan allows for 100 responses per survey and also limits the ability to customize reports and exports that are created. An overview of the limitations can be seen here:

Upgrading the account to one of SurveyGizmo’s paid plans would remove the limitations that you have encountered.

The current plan offerings can be explored here: https://forms.surveygizmo.com/plans-pricing/

        I hope this helps clarify!
