[Solved] Offline mode issues – instructions fail after bookmarking

0

Hello

I’ve been attempting to make a survey work offline and have had some success, but there are also some issues. I’ll try to provide as much information as possible below so that you can hopefully reproduce the problem and tell me where I might be going wrong.

To start:

  • Safari 9
  • Private browsing is turned OFF
  • Cache has been cleared of old bookmarks, so that every time I test I have a new bookmark
  • I’ve checked that I’m not using any functions that do not work in offline mode.

It works when:

  • logging in to Survey Gizmo on my iPad and navigating to the survey,
  • Going to>Share>Download for Offsite use>Download and Run
  • add to Home Screen
  • close my browser and test the bookmark (it works) and leaving my browser open
  • turning off wifi
  • going back to my browser, clicking on record a response and the survey appears
  • I can add another response as many times as I like (and upload them after reconnecting to the internet)

However, it does not work if I close my browser window, and then click on the bookmark. It should work as the page should be in the cache.

It also doesn’t work when:

  • logging in to Survey Gizmo on my iPad and navigating to the survey,
  • Going to>Share>Download for Offsite use>Download and Run
  • Add to Home Screen
  • turning off wifi (as per the order of actions in the documentation instructions)
  • clicking on the bookmark I get the Safari cannot open page because I’m not connected to the internet notice

I’ve also tested with sharing a link via email with the same results.

I’ll not always be able to control whether or not the iPad is shut off or the browser closed between respondents.

The way the instructions are listed, it implies that the bookmark should work when there is no internet connection.

Please let me know if there is some order of operations that might fix this.

Thanks very much,

Mary-Lynne

In case someone wants to see the resolution to this question, tech support helped to resolve it. The issue was that the paths to images in the survey looked like: https://surveygizmolibrary/s3…… When loading those images, the paths were trying access the images online and causing the ‘Safari cannot open page because I’m not connected to the internet’ notice.

Removing the ‘https:’ from the path to the image in the source code, fixed the problem. When opening the survey, it now looks for the images on the hard drive instead of online.

    Thanks to tech support!
