How to import data from an MS Excel spreadsheet into a copy of a SG survey

0

Dear Friends in the SG community,

My goal is to import data from an MS Excel spreadsheet into a copy of a SG survey.

SG tech support notes tells me that the saved Excel file to import should be UTF 8 encoded.

I have saved the Excel file in three different formats as follows:

  • CSV
  • CSV with UTF 8 encoding
  • MS Excel Worksheet with UTF encoding

When I try to upload each of these files using any of the options available – comma, semi-colon, tab, or pipe – i get an error message for each of the files above.

For the CSV files the error message tells me that the file must be UTF encoded.

For the UTF 8 encoded files, the error message tells me that the file must be CSV.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or how ti import data from an MS Excel file?

Thank you advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Peace,

An SG friend

We run into the same problem when we are trying to import files in SurveyGizmo.  Our solution is to open the CSV file in NOTEPAD, use the SAVE AS function, select UTF-8 from the ENCODING options, and save/overwrite the existing CSV file.

This process is a little awkward but it doe work.  Good luck!
