We have some exciting news for you: Custom Tables are improving!
Here’s information to help answer your questions. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please let us know!
What’s changing about them?
The changes to Custom Tables are mostly back-end (how the data is collected and stored). Visually there are only minor changes. In order to better the way data is handled for Custom Tables, we removed the option to change the order of rows within them.
Can I edit my Custom Tables now?
Editing Custom Tables that have collected data prior to January 21st 2015 is not recommended however, if you are collecting data in a Custom Table originally built after this date we’ve made things much safer. We still recommend using care when making edits to any questions, particularly those that have collected data. When in doubt, disabling a row item in your Custom Table is the best practice instead of deleting it completely.
Want to know the nitty gritty of editing Custom Tables?
If you already have a Custom Table with data in it and you change anything (even saving with no changes) in that Custom Table — it will cause your response data in that Custom Table to no longer display in the individual responses panel. Never fear! This is only a display issue within the individual response panel. The data is not gone and will still be available in your summary reports and exports. This is happening because our developers have completely re-written the back-end code for Custom Tables to create new SKUs for each row/reporting value (which is great!). Previously these values would re-write over the same SKU and this caused complete data loss for some of you. We are so happy that this will no longer be an issue.
