Dropdown menu making survey unresponsive

My survey has a dropdown menu on the second page that asks the respondent to select their organization from a list of about 400 organizations. In testing the survey link, the dropdown menu is very slow to load, if at all, and the pages freezes or goes unresponsive. If the dropdown appears, selecting an option also freezes the survey. Looking to launch ASAP so advice much appreciated!

    It sounds like the number of options that you have is perhaps causing the page to time-out. One workaround that comes to mind is the auto-complete option described here:

    https://help.surveygizmo.com/help/force-autocomplete-values

    This does use an open-text question so will change the reporting.

    Another workaround could be to somehow break up your drop-down question into multiple drop downs. The first drop-down could help narrow options, perhaps respondents select a category of organizations that then show a follow up question with options for just that category (you could utilize question logic to show these follow ups: https://help.surveygizmo.com/help/setup-question-logic)
