[Solved] coding question

I realize this is probably a very basic question, but I clearly lack skills (and knowledge of coding).

I am creating a simple survey with a 4 multiple choice response options.

format as follows:

Question#1 “How often do you eat ice cream?”

Multiple choice options:

a) Never

b) sometimes

c) often

d) always

I want to have a number value associated to each score.

e.g. (a) = 1; (b) = 2; (c) = 3; (d) = 4

And then at the end of the survey, I would like to see the following results:

  1. Total score from all the questions once it is done.

So if there were 30 questions, highest possible score would be 120 (30×4) and lowest possible score would be 30 (30×1).

2. A total score for specific questions:

total score for questions 1, 2, 4, 28

total score for questions 3, 5, 21, 26

total score for questions 6, 7, 8, 19, 20

and so on…

So far all I have done is the following:

  1. created the questions in the Multiple Choice Options Field and typed the words: Never, Sometimes, Often, Always
  2. And in the “Reporting Value Field,” I have typed the corresponding “score” (1, 2, 3, or 4) I want for each choice.

Can someone please either point me to a link that will show me how to do this, and/or just offer me the “how to do it” in this email.

Much appreciated.

Amy (aka, severely lacking in coding skills, but willing to learn…)
