What is a typical abandonment rate?
I don’t think that there is a ‘typical’ abandonment rate. I would guess that it is a function of the respondent’s personal/professional investment in the survey topic and the length/complexity of the survey. The offer of an incentive to complete the survey would probably decrease the abandonment rate. Poorly worded questions or other design choices that increase the respondent’s cognitive load/survey fatigue would increase the abandonment rate.
The Falloff report can help give you some insight into this question. Review the SurveyGizmo documentation for details:
If you look at this problem another way, our general expectation for a basic survey is that if we send out 100 invitations we will get between 25 to 35 complete responses. YMMV
